Close To My Heart

There’s something about beautiful paper that brings joy to every crafter’s heart. While we certainly love the fun and variety of patterned papers, the pure simplicity of colored cardstock has an undeniable charm all its own. A major element of that charm no doubt comes from the sheer versatility that cardstock brings to your crafting. The number of effects that you can achieve with a plain sheet of colored cardstock is what makes it such a staple for every crafter. Let’s take a look at a few artwork pieces that show the amazing type of artwork you can create with cardstock.

This colorful layout is an excellent example that showcases our cardstock beautifully, starting with the dramatic diagonal rainbow spanning the base page. The subtle gradations between shades in the rainbow arise from the two-toned feature of our colored cardstocks. Each sheet of cardstock packs two shades, with the true shade on one side and a lighter version on the opposite. This page leverages this feature to create the incredible effect you see here by cutting two paper strips from the same sheet and then placing them beside each other with different sides showing up. This helps the shades blend together across the page.

The background rainbow is then further accentuated by the title, which incorporates rainbow colored letters matching the strips of cardstock. This perfect color-coordination between paper and stamped letters is a cinch thanks to our coordinated color palette. With several products, including cardstock and stamp pads, available in each of our 43 exclusive hues, we make it easy to pick ink colors that will complement your paper usage.

This imaginative and fun title was stamped using two different alphabet stamp sets: the Anthem Alphabet was used for the words “You” and “My,” which are stamped in Sapphire ink to match the border of the page. The letters forming “Color” and “World” Daydream Alphabet stamp set, lending an extra sense of whimsy and playfulness to the rainbow of hues..

The final element of the page that plays into the rainbow theme are the fun die-cuts clustered around the central elements of the page. Once again, the colors of the die-cuts match the cardstock and ink strips perfectly, since they are pulled from our same exclusive color palette. There are many ways you can create your own die-cuts out of cardstock in an endless variety of shapes, including Cricut® shapes and our Thin Cuts metal dies. These tools help you turn your blank canvas of cardstock into fun accent shapes that you can add to your page. However, the die-cuts shown on this page are actually specialty items featured in our Cardstock Carnival sale. They are especially eye-catching owing to the unique glossy coating on the true color side.

These die-cuts are available in 12 different shades, which you can purchase individually or in a discounted bundle for a limited time.

Let’s take a closer look at this Sending Happy Thoughts card, which is a beautiful example of how to pull off a tasteful monochromatic color scheme! You can once again see the seamless color coordination between the cardstock and the stamped images, as well as the tone-on-tone stamping used on the cardstock pieces themselves.

By stamping patterned images in a matching or coordinating ink color, these cardstock pieces have been given a subtle pattern that makes them look like they could have been printed that way. You can see that when you have cardstock, matching ink colors, and a variety of patterned stamp images, you have everything you need to create all kinds of paper effects for all types of artwork!

In this final artwork example, you can see yet another excellent use of cardstock in the patterned background piece. This intricate background pattern was cut out of cardstock using one of our Thin Cuts metal dies. This type of pattern works wonderfully to turn a solid color sheet of cardstock into an elegant accent piece for your project. A bit of sponging with a coordinating ink color on the backing piece behind the die-cut piece does a lot to show off the pattern without letting it steal the show or undercutting the softness of the lighter shade used

As you can imagine, we have only just scraped the surface of the wonderful world of cardstock crafting in today’s artwork examples. Perhaps the best thing about cardstock is the way it can always be relied on when you need to scratch that crafting itch!
